Rooted in Freedom, Grounded in Nature
At Farm School, childhood is meant to be lived—not rushed. Our programs offer a hands-on, nature-based learning experience where children of all ages can explore, create, and engage with the world in meaningful ways. Each day balances predictable routines with freedom, giving children the structure they need while encouraging curiosity, independence, and the development of practical, real-world skills.
Preschool Program (Ages 4–6)
Our preschool program is designed to support young children’s need for movement and hands-on discovery. Mornings begin with gentle invitations that spark curiosity and encourage children to choose their own activities. From there, children engage in child-led projects, exploring independently or in small groups while building decision-making, problem-solving, and creative thinking skills.
Farm activities are woven throughout the day. Children help feed animals, tend to the garden, prepare ingredients in the outdoor kitchen, and care for the land—learning responsibility, empathy, and connection to the natural world. Creative play and exploration—through arts, crafts, sensory projects, and outdoor adventures—allow children to experiment, imagine, and make sense of their world. Shared, unhurried meals provide opportunities to connect, converse, and build community, turning every snack and lunch into a chance for social learning and belonging.
By the end of the day, preschoolers leave having explored, created, and contributed—confident, curious, and ready for the next adventure.
School-Age Program (Ages 7–12)
Our school-age program is crafted for older children who are ready to take ownership of their learning while enjoying extended periods of outdoor exploration and hands-on work. Each day follows a gentle rhythm, with long blocks of time for deep engagement in independent and collaborative projects.
Children develop practical and creative skills through activities such as woodworking, sewing, handcrafts, gardening, farm chores, animal care, and project-based work. They participate in team challenges, outdoor adventures, and problem-solving experiences that encourage leadership, creativity, and collaboration.
During the summer season, children take an active role in running our neighborhood market farm stand. From harvesting and preparing goods to marketing, pricing, cash handling, and customer service, they gain real-world entrepreneurial skills while learning responsibility, communication, and the value of their work.
Reflection periods and shared meals help children develop a sense of responsibility and contribution, offering time to process their experiences and understand how their work supports the larger community.
Across both programs, Farm School provides a space where children move freely, explore deeply, and learn by doing. They leave each day with growing confidence, independence, and practical life skills—rooted in nature, curiosity, and the joy of meaningful work.
Where nature guides the day, curiosity leads the way, and learning unfolds naturally.
The Farm as Our Playground
Tucked away on a small urban farm in the heart of West Boise, our space is a year-round playground of wonder, curiosity, and connection. Shady trees, garden beds, and friendly animals surround children as they spend their days exploring, discovering, and caring for the land—gathering eggs, raising fluffy chicks, brushing our miniature horse, and tending to rabbits and chickens.
Every corner invites adventure and imagination. Kids zoom along the bike and skate path, soar down the zip line, dig deep in the sandbox, climb the jungle gym, and stir up tasty creations in our outdoor kitchen. Mealtimes are special—organic, made-from-scratch lunches and nourishing snacks are shared together, turning food into a time of community, rhythm, and everyday magic.
When the weather turns crisp, we cozy up around the fire pit or nap beneath the open sky, bundled and warm. Our fruit trees, school garden, and sprawling market garden provide endless opportunities to pick, plant, taste, and wander, keeping kids connected to the rhythm of the seasons and the simple magic of growing things.
Even on chilly or rainy days, our warm indoor space is full of possibilities: art supplies, Montessori-inspired toys, musical instruments, board games, LEGO bricks, and shelves of story-filled books. It’s a place to build, imagine, create, and dream when the outdoors calls for a pause.
More than just a space, farm school, is a living, breathing world where childhood unfolds naturally—full of play, discovery, and the joy of being outdoors. Here, kids move freely, explore deeply, and spend their days in tune with nature’s rhythms.
