Rooted in Freedom, Grounded in Nature
Our educational model is rooted in trust—trust in children’s curiosity, their capacity to make choices, and their natural drive to learn. Inspired by the Sudbury model, we offer a fully outdoor, play-based environment where learning unfolds organically through exploration, conversation, and real-life experiences. There are no imposed lessons, no tests, and no one-size-fits-all curriculum—just the freedom to follow interests, ask questions, and grow at one’s own pace. We see play as serious learning, nature as the best classroom, and community as an essential part of every child’s growth.
Our program is especially well-suited for children ages 4 to 6, offering a warm, nature-rich environment where play, exploration, and connection come first. Many families use this time to give their child an extra year before entering traditional school. In Idaho, kindergarten is not required, and waiting until first grade can give children the space to grow socially, emotionally, and developmentally—without the pressure of early academics.
We also welcome homeschoolers, unschoolers, and families seeking a more natural, child-led approach to education. Whether you're postponing school, supporting self-directed learning, looking for meaningful experiences on school days out, or simply want your child to thrive outdoors, Farm School offers a nurturing space where curiosity leads, childhood is honored, and real learning grows from the ground up.

Our Campus
Tucked away on a small urban farm in the heart of West Boise, our campus is a year-round outdoor learning environment designed to nurture curiosity, creativity, and meaningful connection. Surrounded by shady trees, garden beds, and beloved animals, children spend their days immersed in hands-on experiences—gathering eggs, raising chicks, caring for our miniature horse, rabbits, and chickens, and engaging deeply with the land.
Our space invites exploration and play. Children zoom along the skate and bike path, soar down the zip line, dig in the sandbox, climb the jungle gym, and help prepare meals in our outdoor kitchen. We share organic, made-from-scratch meals together every day—including breakfast, lunch, and nourishing snacks—where food becomes a time for community, rhythm, and real-life learning.
In colder seasons, we cozy up around the fire pit or nap beneath the trees, bundled under the sky. Our fruit trees, school garden, and expansive market garden offer daily opportunities to engage with food systems, nature’s rhythms, and sustainability in action.
While most of our days are spent outdoors, we also have a warm indoor space filled with possibilities: art supplies, Montessori-inspired toys, musical instruments, board games, LEGO bricks, and an inviting collection of books. It’s a space for gathering, imagining, building, and creating—especially when the weather calls for indoor inspiration.
Our campus is more than a place to learn—it’s a place where learning grows naturally, joyfully, and in tune with each child’s unique rhythm and curiosity.
