Rooted in Freedom, Grounded in Nature
Here at Farm School, we believe childhood is meant to be lived—not rushed. Our program offers a simple, time-honored experience where kids can explore, imagine, roam, create, climb, get muddy, and simply be kids. It’s an outdoor, nature-rich, play-based environment where the rhythm of the farm shapes the rhythm of the day.
There are no worksheets, no testing, and no pressure to “get ahead”—just the freedom to move, explore, and follow natural curiosity. We trust children to learn through doing: digging in the dirt, caring for animals, climbing trees, building forts, experimenting with nature, and engaging in real play with real tools in the real world. We see unstructured play as essential, nature as the best guide, and childhood as something to be protected and celebrated.
Our program is especially suited for children ages 4 to 6, offering a gentle alternative to formal preschool or early academics. Many families choose to give their child an extra year outdoors before entering traditional school—a choice that often supports stronger social, emotional, and developmental readiness. In Idaho, kindergarten is not required, and waiting until first grade can give children the space to grow socially, emotionally, and developmentally—without the pressure of early academics.
We welcome families who value simplicity, nature, and child-led exploration—including homeschoolers, unschoolers, and anyone wanting a slower, more grounded childhood for their kids. Whether you’re postponing school, seeking meaningful outdoor experiences, or simply want a place where kids can be kids all year long, Farm School provides a wholesome, nature-based environment where play leads the way and childhood is allowed to bloom naturally.
The Farm as Our Playground
Tucked away on a small urban farm in the heart of West Boise, our space is a year-round playground of wonder, curiosity, and connection. Shady trees, garden beds, and friendly animals surround children as they spend their days exploring, discovering, and caring for the land—gathering eggs, raising fluffy chicks, brushing our miniature horse, and tending to rabbits and chickens.
Every corner invites adventure and imagination. Kids zoom along the bike and skate path, soar down the zip line, dig deep in the sandbox, climb the jungle gym, and stir up tasty creations in our outdoor kitchen. Mealtimes are special—organic, made-from-scratch lunches and nourishing snacks are shared together, turning food into a time of community, rhythm, and everyday magic.
When the weather turns crisp, we cozy up around the fire pit or nap beneath the open sky, bundled and warm. Our fruit trees, school garden, and sprawling market garden provide endless opportunities to pick, plant, taste, and wander, keeping kids connected to the rhythm of the seasons and the simple magic of growing things.
Even on chilly or rainy days, our warm indoor space is full of possibilities: art supplies, Montessori-inspired toys, musical instruments, board games, LEGO bricks, and shelves of story-filled books. It’s a place to build, imagine, create, and dream when the outdoors calls for a pause.
More than just a space, farm school, is a living, breathing world where childhood unfolds naturally—full of play, discovery, and the joy of being outdoors. Here, kids move freely, explore deeply, and spend their days in tune with nature’s rhythms.
